To be honest, I wrote this a few years ago, but I ran across it this morning and wanted to share.
I am a solid wood kitchen table. I am made of sturdy pine and have 4 legs. I have long outlasted the chairs that came
with me to this home. I like it
here. The people I live with love me. I am very strong and have nice rounded
edges. I am easy and comfortable for
people to lean on. I know they are
grateful I am here and so reliable.
I spend half my time clean and shining and welcoming all who
sit around me to eat, talk, play games, sort papers, read, do homework, and pay
bills. It is heartening to hear the
laughter and feel the love when friends are gathered around me playing games
and talking. Sometimes when folks are in
a hurry, they leave a big mess all over me and I am covered in newspapers,
crumbs, cell phones, mail, and post its.
I can be formal or casual.
I love when I am all dressed up in holiday finery and a big crowd is
gathered for dinner. But, my favorite
time is on a peaceful Sunday morning.
The people I live with cover me in newspapers and spend hours sitting
with me reading and talking. I feel as
though I am helping to create and spread the joy. I know how important I am to my family. I am the heart of the home.
